Wolfgang Kressin

April 6, 1929 — April 3, 2017

Auf Wiedersehen-Papa, age 87, of Selma, Texas, passed on to his Heavenly Father on 3 April 2017. Wolfgang Karl Kressin was born in Pomerania Germany to Erna and Curt Kressin. A devoted husband and father, Papa is survived by his loving wife Barbara and four children, Kurt, Heidi, Bob and Rich, 17 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. In Germany, he is survived by his sister Hannelore Frohberg and nieces Anke, Heike, and Silke, and nephew Ulf Langenau and nieces Petra and Nina. Family was paramount in Papa's life and the major inspiration in his enduring spirit to better people's lives.

Another passion for Papa was flying. He joined the United States Air Force in 1953 for a 31-year career. Under General Curtis Lemay, Papa helped pioneer the Strategic Air Command, flying thousands of B-52 combat hours. He commanded Lemay's old squadron, the Wolfpack, during Vietnam. His military honors include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Crosses, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medals and Air Medals.

Papa also enjoyed a lifelong hobby winning numerous Air Force wide tennis championships.

Always in search of service and adventure, Papa is on his final journey. May he rest in peace. Visitaiton will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Schertz Funeral Home, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. Memorial Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, 2:00pm, at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment will take place on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
