William Murphy

MSG William (Bill) Patrick Michael Murphy US Army (Ret.) was born in Utica, New York on March 27, 1940, and passed away on June 23, 2014 at the age of 74. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, receiving numerous commendations, awards and medals. After serving in Vietnam, Bill was the NCOIC of the Burn Center and Cardiology at SAMMC (BAMC), he was also a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Once retired from the U.S. Army in 1983, Bill founded WP Murphy Inc. Asphalt and Paving, and Murphy's Readymix Concrete, both located in Schertz, Texas. In 2003, Bill semi-retired turning over daily business operations to his beloved daughter, Kelly. This allowed Bill the opportunity to do the things he loved most, to include, traveling, golfing, volunteering and donating to various originations. Bill took part in a number of organizations including the American Legion, of which he was a lifetime member, VFW, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, and the SALE Ambassador Committee. His most precious memories and cherished times were spent with family and numerous friends. In death, as in life, Bill's charitable donations and philanthropic activities will be continued through his business ventures. Bill's family wishes to extend most sincere and heartfelt thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at San Antonio Military Medical Center and Vitas Hospice, as well as neighbors Bill and Lisa Sigler. Bill is preceded in death by parents, Fern and William Patrick Murphy; brother, Walt Dusseault and faithful V.P., Taffy. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy L. Michna-Murphy of Canyon Lake, TX; Suzanne Kingsbury of New Braunfels, TX; daughters, Kelly T. Murphy-Perez (Antonio) of New Braunfels, TX and Kristie Michna (Chris) of Arlington, TX; sister, Marie Cellamare (Freddie) of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, John W. Shaffer (Emily) and Sean M. Shaffer (Michelle); great-grandchildren, Keira M. Shaffer, Lee B. Shaffer and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Schertz Funeral Home from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. Monica's Catholic Church at 10:00AM with the interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Vitas Hospice in honor of William P. Murphy.
