William Long

William "Bill" Edward Long of Schertz, TX was born in Salina, Kansas on March 26, 1943 and passed away on November 29, 2011 at the age of 68. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, guarding our United States Embassies in Beirut, Lebanon and Jidda, Saudia Arabia. After his military service, he worked as an Aircraft Mechanic & Inspector for over 40 years in the aircraft industry, which included Continental Airlines & The Boeing Company. Preceding him in death were his parents, William H. & Audie A. Long. Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Brenda Lea Long; daughter, Debra Lea Stranahan and her husband, Chad; son, Richard Edward Long and his wife, Christy; daughter, Stephanie Diane Hobbs and her husband, Bryon; one brother, David T. Long; grandchildren, Justin Williams, Grady Hobbs, Kaitlyn Long, Kayla Hobbs, Trey Stranahan, Nathaniel Long, Houston Hobbs, Neal Stranahan; and an abundance of family & friends. Bill was a member of Cornerstone Church, American Legion, National Rifle Association, Texas State Rifle Association, an Honorable Associate of the Texas Leathernecks Motorcycle Club and the Beirut Marine Corps Reunion Organization. He was a fun-loving grandpa, enjoying every event that involved his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Brenda, and the study of world history. He was an expert sharp shooter, winning numerous medals & trophies at rifle competitions. He was also fond of a friendly competition of horse shoes, bingo, dominos, & a fun game of family poker, especially with his brother, David. To top it off, he was a practical joker with an impeccable dry sense of humor. He brought so much laughter into the family, and left us with a multitude of enjoyable memories. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Schertz Funeral Home, from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. The Funeral Service will be on Monday, December 5, 2011, at Schertz Funeral Home, at 9:00AM. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with United States Marine Corps Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of William E. Long to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
