William Jackson

William (Bill) Emery Jackson was born in San Antonio, Texas, on May 9, 1937; he passed away July 27, 2013, at the age of 76. After high school (North East High School), he worked for Southern Pacific Transportation Company (SP) February 1956-1957 as a Fireman. He joined the US Navy and served his country on the USS Ranger March 1957-February 1959. He continued his service in the US Navy Reserves and was honorably discharged March 4, 1963. Upon completion of his active duty commitment, Bill was employed by SP as a Locomotive Engineer February 1959. He continued his employment as a Locomotive Engineer with Union Pacific Railroad (UP) during and after the merger with SP. He retired from UP January 16, 2001 with 41 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvia Gibbons Newton and Emery L. Jackson; sisters, Myrtha Baldwin and Marjorie Peterson and his step-mother, Nora Powell Jackson. Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years , Ann Jackson; daughters, Shannon Desrosiers (Steve) and Mandy Jackson; son, Wade Jackson; grandchildren, Alicia Jackson, William Atkinson, Ashley Barron, Cole Desrosiers, Kelley Desrosiers, Holly Desrosiers, Chelsea Jackson; sisters, Juanita Koger, Myrtle Tatsch (Jake), Joyce Winsand (Dave); and 4 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 5, 2013, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Graveside service is Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at 10:00am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with United States Navy Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8115 Datapoint Dr., San Antonio, TX 78229. Pallbearers will be William Atkinson, Cole Desrosiers, Steve Desrosiers, Matt Lumpkin, Lee Brant, Andy Andrews, and Brent Andrews.
