William G. Bryan, Colonel (Ret.), USAF, born August 17, 1930, in Seguin, Texas to William M. and Ellen Timmermann Bryan, passed away on January 4, 2016, at the age of 85. He lived in Seguin, Texas and attended Seguin High School where he lettered in Track and was Co-Captain of the football team before graduating in 1948. He attended Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) for two years; he then applied and was accepted into the Aviation Cadet Program. Upon completion, he was commissioned in 1953 and sent to Advanced Training in the F-86 at Nellis AFB Nevada. His next assignment was to Long Beach, California, where he met and married, Jeanita Helen Neal.
His next assignment was to the 67 th Fighter Squadron, 18 th Tactical Fighter Wing, and Kadena AB Okinawa. While on Okinawa he transitioned into the F-100. After completing the 3-year tour on Okinawa he was assigned to the 336 th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 4 th Tactical Fighter Wing at Seymore Johnson AFB, NC. While at Seymore Johnson the Wing transitioned to the F-105D. After a 3-year tour at Seymore Johnson, he was selected to become a member of the F-105 Standardization Evaluation Team at Headquarters Tactical Air Command, Langley AFB Virginia. After completion of the 3-year tour at Langley AFB, he was transferred to Tripoli AB, Libya, where he served as an F-105 Gunnery Instructor. After 18 months in Libya, he was transferred to Ramstein AB Germany. While there he was assigned to Air Operations, Headquarters 17th Air Force.
1n 1966, he was assigned to 7 th Air Force Headquarters Tan Son Nhut South Vietnam. After 1 year, he volunteered for tour with the 469 th Tactical Flight Squadron at Korat AB Thailand. He was then assigned a tour in the Pentagon in the office of Director of Plans. After completing the Pentagon Tour he attended the University of Nebraska (Omaha) and completed his college degree in Management. His next assignment was to the Air Training Command as Director of Survival Training. In 1979, his final assignment was Deputy for Resource Management at Lackland AFB. His decorations include the Silver Star with OLC, Distinguished Flying Cross with 3 OLCs, Air Medal with 12 OLCs, Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. William is preceded in death by his son, Craig James Bryan. He is survived by his son, Guy Bryan; daughters, Lisa Bryan Anwar and Jina Bryan Schramm; and grandchildren, Brittany, William, Emily, and Allison. He will be missed and remembered as a kind, caring, and loving father and grandfather of the upmost integrity. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, at 10:00AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any memorial donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
