Wendy S. Swan, LTC (ret) Army Nurse Corps Wendy S. Swan, 59, of Schertz, Texas, passed Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at her home. She was born January 23, 1953 in Shell Lake, WI to James and Ruth (Oldeen) Swan. Wendy graduated from Shell Lake High School in 1971. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, and a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University. She retired from the United States Army in March of 1997 after 22 years of active duty service. During her Army career Wendy served in a variety of managerial and leadership positions. She received a number of awards to include the Legion of Merit, four Meritorious Service Medals, the Expert Field Medical Badge and the Order of Military Medical Merit. Passionate about gardening and the need for outdoor recreational areas, Wendy became a staunch advocate for parkland development and worked tirelessly to raise money to improve the neighborhood parks where she lived. In June of 2012 she was awarded the first, ever, service award from the City of Schertz Parks and Recreation Board for her high level of involvement and service to the City of Schertz. She is survived by her mother Ruth of Shell Lake; 2 brothers, David (Londa) Swan of Eau Claire and Jerry Swan of Las Vegas, NV; sister Joni (Mark) Parker of Shell Lake; 3 nieces, Jessica, Kristin and Sarah and one nephew, Matthew; 4 great nieces and nephews; Camden, RyLee, Audrey and Hunter and her good friend Debbie Bell of Schertz, TX. Wendy was preceded in death by her father James Swan. Funeral services will be held in Shell Lake, Wisconsin followed by burial of cremains with full military honors at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, Spooner WI. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the City of Schertz Parks Department, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, TX, 78154, or Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut, New Braunfels, TX 78130.
