Walter Mcleroy

Walter (Mike) McLeroy Msgt. USMC (ret.), born on May 31, 1939, in Tyler Texas, passed away on July 31, 2015, at the age of 76. Mike was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Irene (Hewig) McLeroy, his parents, Travis and Bertie McLeroy, and his brother, Cleburn McLeroy. He is survived by his sister, Pat and husband Harvey McHan; sons, Warren and wife Deana McLeroy, and Wade Sr. and wife Gayle McLeroy ; grandchildren Wade Jr., Sean, Erin, Caleb McLeroy; sister-in-law, Mildred (Hewig) and husband Daniel Siedenberger; nephews Leroy Hewig, Gary Schroeder, Steve and David McHan; nieces Vera and Imogene Nolley. Mike served 20 years in the Marine Corps and was a combat veteran of Viet Nam. During that time he was a helicopter flight crew member, participated in countless combat missions and received a Purple Heart Award. After retiring, he worked as a locksmith for several years. Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was an active member of the VFW (Kirby Post 2059) serving as post and district commander. Additionally he was a member of the Masons. He was good husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 9:00 AM at Schertz Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
