Walker Bourne

May 28, 1941 — March 4, 2022

Walker Berkeley “Buck” Bourne’s love of life did not come to an end with his death but lives on in those who knew him. Buck passed away and laid down his “working tools” on March 4, 2022 at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. His fight with cancer showed his bravery in facing life challenges with a smile and staying strong until the end.

Buck was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend who had a life-long passion of serving others. He was born May 28, 1941, in Sanford, North Carolina and spent most of his childhood growing up in Virginia. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959 and spent 21 years stationed around the world to include Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star along with multiple other service awards. After retiring from the military as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1980, he continued serving his nation as a United States Air Force civil servant until his final retirement. Buck was a 50-plus year member of the Masons and an active member of the Randolph Masonic Lodge and the Alzafar Shrine, where he worked tirelessly to raise funds in support of the Shriners Children’s Hospitals.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Buck. He was happiest when he was out playing golf with friends or serving others as a Mason and Shriner.  Those who knew him will always remember his sense of humor and willingness to help others.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirlee; a daughter, Terrie and her husband Mike; a granddaughter, Hannah and her husband Erin; and his sweet dog Misty.

Military funeral honors, graveside committal service and Masonic funeral rites will take place at 10:15 on April 11, 2022 at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospitals at https://donate.lovetotherescue.org/
