Viola Schaefer

September 7, 1922 — January 16, 2010

Viola Ruedrich Schaefer, born September 7, 1922, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed to a better life with our Heavenly Father at the age of 87 years on January 16, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Amanda Ruedrich; her twin sister, Linda Gantz; her loving husband, Marvin John Schaefer; and her beloved daughter Mary Louise Borman. Viola is survived by her adoring grandchildren, Channa Erin Borman Eckert and husband, Thomas Eckert of Bryan, TX, and Melody Lynne Borman and husband, Joe Hicks of Prattville, AL. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren whom she adored and who adored her, Emma Elisabeth Eckert and Lilly Woodson Eckert. Likewise, Viola is survived by her brother-in-law, Louis Gantz, and numerous extended family and friends who became family during her caring, loving and joyful life, including the Ortizes and Trotters. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Violas caregivers for her final years: Roxanne, Julio, Alice and Alicia. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Schertz Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 (noon) on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated but memorial donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels, Texas.
