Victor Gutierrez, age 86, went to be with our Lord on September 30, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Victor was born in Laredo, Texas on January 12, 1934 He joined the Air Force on August 7, 1952. He was a member of the 807th Tactical Control Squadron stationed at Landstuhl Air Force Base in Germany as an Air Traffic Controller and Warning Operator. Once he met his beloved “Mary”, Victor left the Air Force in July of 1956 and married the love of his life, Maria Gutierrez on May 3rd, 1959. Victor was a proud American who believed in God, family and country and devoted his life to his wife, children, and grandkids. His favorite pastime was playing baseball in his younger days as he was known as “el pelotero”. He was inducted into the Latin American International sports Hall of Fame in 1998 in Laredo Texas. He was an avid sports fan of his beloved Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys. Victor is survived by his daughters, Thelma Lopez of Corpus Christi, Texas and Belinda Gutierrez-Sabatelli of Schertz, Texas; son in law, Jesse Lopez of Corpus Christi, Texas, daughter in laws, Elva Gutierrez of Corpus Christi Texas, Shannon Sabatelli of Schertz Texas; grandchildren, Monica (John) Mendez, Ashley (Jan) Krsak, Kimberly Gutierrez, Emily Gutierrez; great grandchildren, Alisa Mendez, Bianca Mendez, Javier Juan Mendez and Shepard Darius Diaz all from Corpus Christi, Texas; siblings; Lucila Martinez of Laredo Texas, Josefina Garza of Laredo Texas, Aurora Guzman of Laredo Texas, Maria Emilia Trevino of San Antonio Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. Victor is preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Aurora Gutierrez, beloved wife, Maria Gutierrez, children, Javier Gutierrez and Victor Gutierrez Jr., siblings Arturo Gutierrez, Alberto Gutierrez Jr., Luis Gutierrez, and Anita Perez. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 5:00PM-9:00PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00PM and eulogy to follow at the Schertz Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 11:30AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Jesse Lopez, John Mendez, Eddie Gutierrez, Ezequiel Garza, Michael Sabatelli and Dave Clark. Honorary pallbearers Jan Krsak, Javier Juan (JJ) Mendez and Arturo A. Gutierrez. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of the good Shepherd building fund or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
