Twilla Featherstone

February 23, 1945 — January 15, 2013

Twilla Dawn Featherstone, 67 of Schertz Texas, entered into rest on Tuesday January 15, 2013 in Live Oak, Texas. She was born to Roy Hazen and Virginia James Gillespie in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. Twilla attended Fredericton Business College, graduated and went to work as a secretary at Robinsons Department Store in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After a short time, she returned to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada and was a secretary for Medjuck Furniture. During which time, she completed her Civil Service Exams and began to work for the New Brunswick Provincial Government. In the summer of 1963, Twilla made a decision to go to Bible College and that fall she began classes at the United Pentecostal Bible Institute in Fredericton. It was here she met her future husband; Edwin E. Featherstone. In 1965, Twilla moved to St. John, New Brunswick where she began working as a secretary at the executive offices of Irving Oil. Twilla and Rev. Edwin E. Featherstone were married on October 29, 1966 and together they resided in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, where Rev. Featherstone was the pastor of Sherwood Apostolic Church. Over the next 28 years, Twilla became a mother to five children, and in addition to being a very busy homemaker, she was also the church organist and Sunday School teacher. She moved with her husband and family to San Antonio, Texas in 1993, where she continued to be very involved in her local church, Faith Apostolic Church of Selma, as an organist and Sunday School teacher. In 2003, Twilla was diagnosed with Huntingtons Chorea Disease and although she had seen her mother suffer through the same illness, she kept a very positive outlook on life. Due to her condition, she spent the last two and a half years of her life bedridden but still kept her Faith, continued in her walk with the Lord, and hardly ever missed a single church service until the time of her passing. During this time, she was lovingly cared for by Pearly Sheffield, Angela Hughes, Martha MacLauchlan, Stephanie Featherstone and Joy MacLauchlan. On December 26, 2012, she was admitted to Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas and was compassionately cared for by the doctors, nurses and hospital staff for 21 days until she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on January 15, 2013. Twilla truly influenced the lives of those that knew her, as she manifested true Christian values and proved to be a wonderful example to all those who knew her. Twilla is survived by her husband Reverend Edwin Featherstone, sons: Jonathan (Dawn) and Joel (Crystal) all of Schertz, TX, sons: Andrew (Anita) of San Antonio, Aaron (Kimberly) of Baytown, TX.; daughter: Leah (Gabriel) Castro of Cibolo, TX. brothers: Don Gillespie of St. John, NB, Wendell (Junie) Gillespie of McAdam, NB, Canada; sister: Bonnie Charters of Aroostook, NB, Canada and Step-Mother: Josie Gillespie, of Harvey Station, NB, Canada.
