Timothy Frakes

March 10, 1945 — October 6, 2009

Major Timothy Alan Frakes, U. S. Air Force (Ret.), devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and loyal friend was at peace and passed into our Lords hands with his beloved family by his side on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at the age of 64 after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). While ALS depleted his body, it did not take away his spirit, sense of humor or his love for life. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 10, 1945. Tim was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor Clark. He is survived by Carolyn Frakes, his devoted and loving wife of 42 years; his daughter, Kimberlea Novak and her husband, Brian and their son Brandon; his son Scott and wife, Shawna and their children, Kalie, Dylon, and Unique; his father Robert E. Clark; his twin sister, Kathi Flury; his sister, Sharon Runge; his brother, Terry Frakes and all of his friends that loved him dearly. Tim proudly served his country for over 21 years in the United States Air Force. He then worked for ten years at USAA as a computer systems analyst. Tim had a wonderful zest for life. He loved his family, the outdoors, gardening, college football, hockey and running. He was diagnosed with ALS in February 2007 and fought a valiant and courageous battle against this disease. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John Sladky, Chief of Neurology at Wilford Hall Medical center, who compassionately cared for Tim from the beginning through the end of this disease. We would also like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and therapists at the V.A. and VistaCare Hospice for their loving care of Tim in his final months. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes a donation be made to the ALS Association on behalf of Tim and his team, Tims Crusaders at www.alsa.org. Services will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. You are invited to sign the electronic guestbook at www.schertzfuneralhome.com.
