Thurman Trotter

November 29, 1931 — June 14, 2013

Thurman Harold Trotter (T.H.) was born of Thomas And Mary Trotter in Bartlett Tennessee on November 29, 1931. He was raised with his brothers and sister (John, Tommy, Bobby and Linelle) on the family farm in Eads, Tennessee. He attended school in Bartlett and graduated in 1949. He then started his military career and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mary Trotter, brothers John and Bobby, and sons David, Scott, and daughter Linda. He is survived by his loving wife Martha, brother Tommy and sister Linelle, sons Butch, Charles, Joe, and Steve and daughters Sandy, Sharon, Laura and Cindy. Numerous grand children and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly and equally. T.H. always loved the country lifestyle and had many fond memories of his childhood. He and his brothers worked hard helping on the farm but still had time to hunt and get into some mischief. He loved his siblings dearly and always spoke highly of them. Our father was a good man. He raised 4 children by himself while continuing his military career that was no easy job. Moving from country to country and base to base we all had to work together. Even in hard financial times he tried his best to give us all the things we wanted and needed to make our lives comfortable. Its amazing how he was able give us such wonderful Christmas memories with such a small military salary. He always put us first. He taught us independence and also instilled in us good work ethics and respect for our elders. He married Martha in 1975 and helped raise her children Scott, Sandy, Sharon and Jennifer and loved them as he did his own children. T.H. (as he preferred to be called) had a distinguished military career. He changed career fields several times. Starting in the Air Force as a cook he moved to the Army also as a cook then worked as a supply sergeant, an inspector for the Inspector General, finally for the Fifth Army Headquarters here at Fort Sam Houston, where he retired in 1975. He received many commendations during his career including the Bronze Star while serving in Viet Nam. After retiring from the Army he and wife Martha moved to Marion, Texas where they returned to his dream of country living. They were involved in raising many types of animals and game birds where they showed them at county fairs and other shows where he won many awards. He loved raising cows and made many friendships with like-minded people. He was happy to live his final days at home in his little piece of paradise. T.H. was also a member of the Masonic Lodge having joined in Tennessee in 1951. In 2001 he received his 50-year award. A loving husband, father and a friend to all that knew him he will be missed by us all. He was surely met in heaven by those before him and is looking down upon those left behind. A Memorial Service will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 @ 1:00PM with visitation to start at 11:30AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
