Thomas Simms

Thomas Earl Simms was summoned to his heavenly home on 30 June 2018, in Schertz, Texas. God supported him through 83 years of his life. Tom was born on 2 April 1935, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

He served two years in the United States Army, with the 82nd Airborne stationed in Japan, and served in the Korean War. After leaving the Army, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and Republic in Chicago, Illinois. He retired from the Chicago Truck Drivers Union in 1980.

It was October, 1957 that he met and married his forever bride, Clara. Not only was he her husband, but he was her very best friend. During their 60 years of marriage, they vacationed together numerous times to Las Vegas, Nevada, Washington DC., and Mississippi. He always remained her sunshine on a cloudy day.

Tom was happiest fishing and creating a beautiful garden, even being awarded "Yard of the Month".

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gloria. Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara; children, Carol Simms and Eva Davis; grandchildren, Michael Davis and Byron Lowe; great grandchild, Byron Lowe, Jr.; sisters, Joyce, Carol, Jean and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, 12 July, 2018 from 5:00 - 9:00PM at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Friday, 13 July, 2018 at 9:00AM, Schertz Funeral Home Chapel, interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
