Thomas M. “Tom” Pardaen passed away in his home on December 25 th , 2020. He was born on April 14 th , 1954 in Washington, DC and spent much of his youth travelling due to his father’s profession. Despite time spent in Paris, France and California, Tom was only truly home in Texas. There he started his career, fell in love, and raised his family.
Tom led a life of service to the community and all he knew. He would volunteer his time with many organizations, including Food for Families, Meals on Wheels, AJ Moore Academy, Lakewood Christian Church Youth Group, the Game Warden Association, and the Boy Scouts of America. Even in his chosen career as banker, he helped people finance a vehicle, dream home, or new business. His motto was “cheerful service to others”, and he lived that every day.
This focus on service extended to his love of food and cooking. He would cater for organizational fundraisers, working all night tending the smokers and grills. Tom even taught a continuing education class at McLennan Community College, where he would share techniques for cooking in a Dutch oven, smoker, or grill. Outside of these events, Tom was always cooking for family and friends.
Tom’s other great passion was the outdoors. He would often say he felt closest to God in nature, and he took many trips with family and the Boy Scouts of America to enjoy the wonder of the wilderness. Favorite memories include the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico and adventures all over Texas, especially Inks Lake State Park and the Davis Mountains.
Tom is survived by his wife, Susan; two sons, Paul and Joey; grandson, Weston; brothers, Daniel, James, and Mark; and many extended family members and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents Walter and Emma Lou Pardaen.
