Thomas "Tom" Lee Althouse born on January 28, 1938 in Kenton, Ohio, passed on November 3, 2015 in Schertz, Texas. Retired since 1998, Tom spent his latter working years in the Civil Service Industry at Kelly Air Force Base. Previously, he served in the USAF, raced cars in drag, stock and even some demolition derby. He worked many years with Rockwell International and was very proud of his contributions to the production of the B-1 Bomber. In 1978, he and his family relocated to Schertz, TX. His favorite saying was always, "I wasn't born a Texan, but I got here as quick as I could." He was an active member of the Alamo Classic Chevy Club in San Antonio and the proud owner of many classic cars; most recently a red and white 1957 Chevy. He took great joy in supporting and participating with the R.O.A.D. foundation alongside his daughter, Barbara and his wife, Norma. Tom was blessed with the gift of never knowing a stranger. He would make anyone feel welcomed and was quick to share any one of his many stories about cars, airplanes or life in general. Tom was a loving husband and father - the ultimate "doting" grandfather and a benevolent neighbor. He will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ida Pearl Erwin; son, Joseph, and daughter, Barbara. He leaves behind his wife, Norma Jean (Cavin) Althouse; daughters, Sharon Pennington of Apple Valley, California, and Cyndi Cejka of Austin, Texas; sister, Connie Smith of Columbus, Ohio; grand-children, Jaclyn, Ashley, Angela and Nathan. In lieu of flowers donations can be made via the Alamo Classic Chevy Club for the San Antonio Children's Shelter. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00PM - 5:00PM, with the Funeral Service beginning at 5:00PM. A gathering will be held immediately following the funeral service at Grace Community Church in Universal City, TX.
