It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of Theodore “Pete” Hudson, who was born August 16, 1938, and went Home April 14th, 2025. There, he will be welcomed home by long awaiting family members: His wife, Mary Ellen Hudson née Campbell, sons Tracey, Troy, Timothy and Tyrone; Mother, Helen and Father, Walter, as well as his 8 siblings, Dorothea, John, Walter, Wayne, Eugene, Helen, Paul and Annette.
He is survived by his sons Anthony and Terence Hudson, grandchildren, Angela, Ashley, Terence, Troy, Rodney, Tamica and Tyeese, and numerous great-grandchildren.
He attended Phelps Vocational High School, where he learned a multitude of craft trades, which demonstrated his creativity through woodworking to painting. Through his love of painting, he was accepted into Corcoran School of Arts & Design, where he was able to expand his expertise in the visual arts.
In 1957, Pete joined the United States Army, under Cavalry Troop 1st Recon, 15th Cavalry, 2nd Armored Division, where he was deployed to serve in Korea as an Armored Crewmember. Here, he defended the DMZ between North and South Korea and worked as an instructor for operating and maintaining Main Battle Tanks, until he separated Honorably from Service in 1959.
Soon after, he became a Federal Employee for the Government Printing Office. There, Pete would serve his nation by maintaining, printing and dispatching government documents, publications as well as current and historical communications to the public.
His greatest service was to his family and to God. He soon met and married the love of his life, Mary, and grew a beautiful family of 6 boys. As a father, he was a rock; the stone foundation of leadership and allegiance amongst his sons as they grew together in a harsh world. Loyalty, trust and compassion was always a virtue in the Hudson Household, which extended beyond those he met.
Within the neighborhood, everyone knew Mr. Hudson, a staple of the community and a pillar in the Catholic Church. In 1983, he joined St. Anthony’s of Padua of Washington D.C., Northeast, as an usher, and has maintained that role of leadership for 40 years. During this time, he had a great many trials, as he lost his wife of 35 years of marriage to cancer. He also had to bury 4 of his sons, the latest only 11 months ago. Pete upheld his role of strength and compassion for others, even as times were dark for him.
In 2024, he made the decision to move from Washington, DC to Cibolo, TX to live out his retirement. In the short time he had here, he made many friends and touched so many hearts with his words of wisdom and tales of his life’s journey.
On April 14th, he passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak TX. His services will be Saturday, April 19th at Schertz Funeral Home at 5 PM, before being flown to Washington, DC for further services. The repast will be held at 222 Hanover Place, Cibolo TX, 78108 @ 7 PM.
Theodore Hudson was the figurehead of the Hudson Family and a stable foundation in our community; the one that everyone would turn to in their time of need and mentorship. His life inspired all that he encountered, bringing a wealth of compassion and knowledge he amassed from his youth into adulthood. All he knew was dedication through service. His passing has left a definitive hole in the community that he has reached, but his spirit will continue to teach us and inspire us all. He will be forever missed.
