Thelma Harrison

July 29, 1938 — October 9, 2017

Thelma Jean Harrison was called home Monday October 9th 2017 at the age of 79. She left this life comfortably and in no pain with her daughter by her side. She was born Thelma Jean Brandt on July 29th 1938 in Boerne Texas. She married young as Thelma Sharp and had a daughter. After their divorce, she fell in love and had a second daughter but was widowed after Carey Livingston was in an active duty plane crash. She and John Harrison found each other and forged a family of eight. They lived in San Antonio, Mississippi, overseas in Okinawa, Kentucky then back to Texas following John wherever he was stationed in the USAF. A lot of times Thelma had the six children on her own, sometimes even driving them across country being the only referee.

She had many hobbies including league bowling, crochet, volunteering with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo as a Lifetime member of the Horseshow Committee and driving her buggy behind a strawberry roan Belgian with the Mesquite Traildrivers of Adkins Texas. She always took dozens of homemade cookies for the week long trail ride to share with other riders whom affectionately called her "The Cookie Lady".

She was preceded in death by her parents Velma and Eddie Brandt, brother Oland Brandt, granddaughter Desiree Faith Barnett and stillborn son Glen Sharp. She is survived by husband John Harrison, siblings Lester Brandt, Ophelia Knowlton, Leona Doeppenschmidt, Evelyn Kubena, children Glynda Barnett and husband James Barnett, Carrie Barritt and husband Shane Barritt, Lisa Ownby and husband H Ownby (deceased), Lequita Buckert and husband Andy Buckert, William Harrison, Darrell Harrison, grandchildren Destiny Sutterfield, Courtney Jean Barritt, Aubrey McCraken , Deyanna Still, PJ Pellerin, David Pellerin, Kevin Pellerin as well as great grandchildren.

The viewing will be held at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM3009, Schertz, TX 78154, Thursday October 19th from 4pm-8pm. Funeral will also be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Friday October 20th at 9am with burial services at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 10:15am.
