Thelma Hamilton
June 17, 1919 — March 19, 2015
Thelma Irene Hamilton was born on June 17, 1919 in the town of Plainfield, Waushara Co., Wisconsin to the parents of Bert Delos Monroe and Flossie Irene Shippiee Monroe. She was a longtime resident of Hancock, Wisconsin, moved to San Antonio to reside with son and daughter-law. Later she was at Sterling House assisted living, and recently at Silverstone Private Home Care where she passed away on March 19, 2015, at the age of 95. Thelma graduated from Plainfield High School where she was involved in many activities and enjoyed playing the clarinet in the band. She later played with Chester and Chester's grandfather in the Hancock Community Band which was directed by Chester's Father Frank B. Hamilton. She married Chester Frederick Hamilton on September 14, 1937 at her family country home in Plainfield, WI. After her marriage she and Chester resided in the house that Chester's grandfather, A.S. Hamilton had built. They worked in the A.S. Hamilton and Son family furniture and general store and Funeral Business in Hancock and Coloma. Thelma also received Advanced Mortuary Studies certificate from the Dodge Institute. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, and long time member of the Modern Woodmen of America. She is survived by her only son, Franklin D. Hamilton; daughter in law, Sylvia; grandchildren, Naomi N. Flanagan, Joyce J. Calhoun (Shane), Kent L. Hamilton (Laura), Lanita L. Alonzo, and Dawn M. Hamilton; 15 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. A Visitation will be held at the Schertz Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 3:00PM with a funeral service at 4:00PM. A graveside service will be held at the Hancock Village Cemetery in Hancock, WI under the direction of Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma, WI. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations may be given to the Hancock Fire Dept.
