Syd Vital
June 30, 1954 — June 25, 2014
Syd Vital, 59, passed suddenly on June 25, 2014 in Seguin, Texas. Syd loved flying and after 24 years in Garden Ridge, Texas and flying at Kitty Hawk Field, Syd and Twyla moved to Elm Creek Flying Field in Seguin to be closer to his passion of flying. At the age of 17, Syd began serving his country in the U. S. Air Force; retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant after 20 years. Syd then began a second career, working another 20 years in the Medical Radiology field, most recently holding the position of Director, Advanced Imaging San Marcos. Syd's love of flying began with Civil Air Patrol in his teens and as a member of E.A.A. into the world of flying and building ultralight and sport planes. Throughout the years, Syd delved into many hobbies that ranged from flying high in the skies to scuba diving the oceans depth. Also catching his interest along the way were shooting, remote control models, computers, and woodworking. However, foremost was his love of family which grew exponentially with the opportunity to pass on his passion to his grandsons. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 41 years, Twyla; his son, James and wife Cora from Dayton, Ohio; his son, Patrick and wife Dawn from Schertz, Texas; his two grandsons Cole and Conner. He will also be missed by his sister Sonja McKinney and all who ever had the opportunity to truly know him. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 5:00PM-8:00PM. A Memorial Service will be held at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel with United States Air Force Honors on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 6:00PM In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate supporting our nation's youth in developing a love for flying through donations, in his name, to the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Foundation.
