Stan Lowe
May 13, 1932 — December 7, 2013
Stan was born on 13 May 1932 in Vincennes, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 54 years, daughters and their spouses, and his grandchildren. Stan loved traveling and sports. He was an Army brat and graduated from high school in Germany; he was a pitcher on his high school baseball team and was also a lifelong golf enthusiast. Stan joined the Army military and was part of a MASH unit overseas for several years. Although he was not a native Texan, he arrived in the Lone Star state as quickly as he could and he loved it here. He settled in San Antonio, got married, and had two children. Stan's occupation was in the transportation industry where he worked closely with members of both the civilian and military communities for well over three decades. His dedication, knowledge, and enthusiasm were key ingredients to his success. He worked his way up the ranks to the level of manager with a responsibility of overseeing 5 offices, 15 employees, and a multi-million dollar revenue. He was an active member in, and an officer of, the National Defense Transportation Association and was also member of the Chamber of Commerce in the cities where he lived. Although not a wealthy man, Stan was able to take his family on a number of vacations -- they visited numerous countries in South America including Paraguay multiple times, Italy, Puerto Rico, and various other destinations within the United States. More recently, he and his wife took two pilgrimages to Jerusalem. Stan's other great love was the Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, an usher at Sunday mass, and a Eucharistic minister who delivered communion to patients in local hospitals. He and his wife attended Mass daily at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH). He also helped his wife establish the OLPH Church library. Regardless of the context - family, friends, volunteering, or work -- he was always ready with a helping hand, a smile, and a joke. Making people laugh and feel at ease was a passion of his and one of his many fortes. Stan will be sorely missed by family, friends, neighbors, church members, and loved ones. With his passing, the Star of Texas is indeed shining a little less brightly. Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Wednesday morning, December 11th with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30AM, followed by the Funeral Mass @ 10:00AM. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
