SMSgt Roland E. Jake Jacques, USAF (ret.), age 84 of Converse, TX, passed away on October 19, 2011. Roland is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Jean Jacques; children, Suzie A. Glisson of Converse, TX and David W. Jacques of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Christopher A. Jacques of Bandera, TX, Jeremiah A. Jacobson of Fort Hood, TX and Andrew F. Harris of Converse, TX and great-grandson, Christopher A. Jacques of Bandera, TX. Roland enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 17 years old until 1947. He worked as a machinist until the Korean War started. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force until he retired on June 1, 1974. Roland franchised submarine sandwich shops until 1982. He also worked for Sears in the Home Improvement Department until 1990. Roland loved faceting gem stones and he delighted in traveling in his RV, playing golf, playing bridge and playing Pinochle. Graveside Services will be held at 2:45 PM on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
