Shirley Smith

December 20, 1946 — May 24, 2010

Shirley Jean Smith went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 24, 2010. Born in Brownwood, TX on December 20, 1946 as the first child and only daughter to John D. and Mary Beth Brandon, she grew up to be the ultimate caregiver. While growing up, she doted on her younger brothers. She showered her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with an abundance of love. Shirley always worried more about everyone else rather than herself. She followed the example of her Savior, lifting others up and caring for anyone she met in any way she could. She never spoke a harsh word of anyone and possessed a remarkable gift of showing everyone how special they are. Though bothered by health problems for many years, she never complained and never gave in. Her most recent battle to recover from brain surgery was inspirational to her family. She fought hard to regain her independence and return to her normal life. Her family rejoices in the knowledge that she is waiting in glory and looking down in love. She is survived by her husband Jeff Smith of Blanco; her mother, Mary Beth Stephens of Burnet; daughter, Sherry Wright of San Antonio; son, Gary Gebhard of Austin; brothers, Johnny Brandon and wife Diana of San Patricio, Darrell Brandon and wife, Christy of San Antonio, Rusty Brandon and wife Dixie of Tow and Donald Brandon and wife Peggy of Burnet; stepsisters, Frances Raschen, Paula Simon and Sandra Bennaka; stepbrother, Dennis Stephens; grandchildren, Travis Wright, Amber Smith, Brandi Gebhard, Sara Sanders and Angel Gebhard; 8 great grandchildren and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be 9:00 AM " 12:00 PM on Friday, May 28, 2010 at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009 in Schertz. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday at Coker Cemetery, 231 East North Loop Rd, San Antonio. There will be a memorial celebration of Shirleys life at 11:00 AM at East Lake Fellowship, 13218 RR 2341, Burnet. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis, TN.
