SHARON KAY STARKS
11/1/1940 – 1/22/2024
Sharon Kay Starks, born on November 1, 1940, in Emporia, Kansas passed away on January 22, 2024 at the age of 83.
Sharon is survived by her three daughters, Andrea Barrows & husband Guy, Cindy Mackechney and Jennifer Spofford & husband Jarret. She had 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Siblings include Evelyn Vanauken, Buddy Jackson and sister-in-law, Andrea Driskell. She also left behind a special friend, Tom Nelson and longtime bestie, Paula Boney.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Billy Davis Starks, her parents, Robert Harold Engle and Vera Mae Jackson and her sister, Shirley Ann Malloy.
Sharon was a stay-at-home mom until moving from Houston to San Antonio where she worked at Windcrest Elementary as a Clinic Aide for 12 years. She loved volunteering for many groups to include being a Candy Striper at NE Methodist Hospital, both nursing homes where her mother and mother-in-law resided, at all 3 daughter’s schools, her church (VBS and Choir) and was made an honorary member of the National PTA Association. At the time of her passing, she was a member of the on-line ministry at Northern Hills United Methodist Church. Sharon was the Volunteer Coordinator for several years at the Schertz Senior Center and she was also active at the Cibolo Senior Center. She lived at Merritt Lakeside Senior Village for 11 years before moving in with Andrea and Guy. Sharon made so many friends and loved hanging out with them.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Embrace Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Sean Dittman at Affinity Family Care Clinic and Dr. Van Adamson for the wonderful care they provided to Sharon.
Visitation for Sharon will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 7th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held the following day at Schertz Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for the Graveside Service at 2:30 p.m. Services to be conducted by Senior Pastor Lupina Stewart from Northern Hills United Methodist Church.
