Scott J. Neal

Scott J. Neal, age 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 4 after a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer. 

Scott was born on September 23, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Ray Cecil Neal II and Stella Marjorie Ann Bonner. After his father passed away, Scott’s mother remarried George Davidson who raised him and his brothers Glen and John in Houston, Texas. Scott attended St. John’s School and studied at the University of Texas in Austin. He initially worked for Coca Cola as a delivery driver and steadily rose through the industry ranks to become Vice President for International Sales for Lancer Corporation and FBD. 

On April 21, 1986, Scott married Marlene Longacre in a civil ceremony in Dubuque, Iowa. They settled together in the state of Texas where they raised their family in San Antonio and Bulverde. Once their children graduated and married, Scott and Marlene fulfilled their dream of retiring to the Texas coast for many years before returning to Schertz to be closer to their grandchildren. 

Scott is survived by his children RJ, Dana, Sean, Michelle, and Matthew and their spouses; his ten grandchildren Chris, Angel, Dennis Cole, Emma, Grace, Brianna, Elijah, Sloan, Madeleine, and Neal; and great-grandchildren Nova and Phoenix. In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marlene, brother Glen, and son Shannon. 

Scott was a man of diverse passions and deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband to Marlene and an amazing father to their blended family of six children. As a dedicated "Pop Pop," he continued his legacy of love by supporting his grandchildren's endeavors on the sidelines of athletic games, meets, and races. Scott loved sports cars and also enjoyed the slower pace of life - watching golf and football, relaxing by the pool, and playing guitar. Being a skilled carpenter, he relished the challenge of building decks, gazebos, and porches. Scott used his sharp negotiation skills to hunt down good deals for his ambitious home remodeling projects.

Memorial services will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Monday, October 14th, 2024 from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Friends and family are welcome to join in person or to share their condolences online.
