He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Anita (Thompson) Harrod; his two daughters, Sara Harrod and Kimberly Harrod Plourde (Daniel Plourde son-in-law); stepson, Jeff Pollock; sister Vanessa Harrod; three beloved grandchildren Samuel, Joshua and Caroline Plourde; and many close friends.
He was born February 18, 1955, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, the son of Clarence and Nancy Lee Byrnside Harrod. After graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in 1977 (33rd Squadron), he was a pilot in the United States Air Force and served 21 years -- retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1998.
Committed to his family and community, he was an active member at First Baptist Church Universal City for many years and recently attended Community Bible Church in San Antonio. He was a trustee for the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD for 10 years. He loved books, history, music and Kentucky basketball. But most of all, he loved and invested his time in people. He was a peacemaker with a servant's heart. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 2:00-5:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, Texas. The funeral is scheduled for Monday, February 29, 2016 , at 10:00am at First Baptist Church Universal City. Graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10:00am , Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Fisher House at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
