Ruth Olga Reus Rowlett, age 85, of San Antonio, TX went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2020. She was born in LaCoste, TX on May 7, 1935. She spent the early part of her life in that area until her move with her parents to their farm in Hondo, TX. Her legacy is that of a loving wife, a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to many. She will always be remembered for her deep love of our triune God.
After graduating Hondo High School, she immediately traveled to Germany to join her husband who was serving in the Army. After returning to Hondo in 1956, she continued to serve as an organist for her church, member of the band boosters, and began to develop many memories for her family. She was an excellent cook. Her famous chocolate pie she served, especially to her grandchildren, the muffin bread she baked, her special chicken salad, and her annual cinnamon rolls baked and served on Christmas mornings all were highlights. Her love of outside activities included tending to her plants and feeding her birds and pet squirrels. Later in life, she became an avid Spurs fan. She was a gracious hostess when entertaining as shown by the many home bridal showers held in her home, neighborhood parties, and the countless functions she so willingly opened her house up welcoming clients and friends of her husband’s business.
She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Olga Reus. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Al Rowlett; her daughter, Pamela Hare and husband Randall of San Antonio, grandchildren Brett Hare and wife Rose, Kristen Freeman and husband Adam; her son Mike Rowlett and wife Teresa of San Antonio, grandchildren David Rowlett and wife Jennifer and also Kellie Rowlett; her son Gary Rowlett and wife Diane of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren Jillian Leeth and husband Alex, Jenna Martinez and husband Frank. She is also survived by a sister, Esther Baker and husband Weldon of Kerrville, TX, a brother William Reus and wife Margaret of Hondo TX; along with five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
