Russell Sands
August 18, 1940 — January 22, 2014
Russell L. Sands passed away January 22, 2014 in Schertz, Texas. He was born in Havre, Montana to Harry and Lois (Ulrigg) Sands Aug. 18, 1940 and was their only child. He graduated from high school in Great Falls, MT and enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Europe, England and Vietnam. After his army service, he built a successful career in Colorado leasing heavy equipment and other vehicles. In later years he became a Certified Senior Financial Advisor, helping seniors become financially secure. He and wife, Maryellen moved to Las Vegas, NV to care for his 2nd "Dad," B.J. Higgs for several years. In 2012 they moved to Schertz, Texas. A military graveside service and burial will be at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX January 31st @ 9:30a.m. chapel service and refreshments at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Rd. Universal City, TX at noon. Russell loved the many dogs he had over the years, all of them rescue dogs. Prior to his illness and death "Honey" and then for a short time later "Bailey," went to the "Rainbow Bridge" to wait for him along with the rest of his beloved pets. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lois & B.J. and his father, Harry. Russell is survived by his wife, Maryellen, sons, Lee and Brent, step-daughters, Sue and Kristen, step-son, Timothy, 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and cousins, Terry and Linda.
