Roy Wallace
April 22, 1920 — May 6, 2009
Roy E. Wallace was born April 22, 1920 and entered the loving arms of the Lord May 6, 2009 at his home in Schertz, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, coach and friend to many. Roy grew up and played high school football in Missouri where his 1938, 39, and 40 teams went undefeated. He served in the Army from 1942-45, fought in WWII and was awarded 4 bronze campaign stars. In 1949 Roy received his Bachelors degree from the Univ. of Houston, where he played football and baseball. In 1961 he completed his Masters of Education degree at Trinity Univ. He served 36 years in public education as a teacher/coach and Athletic Director, and began his coaching career at Cleveland, TX. He then moved to Corpus Christi Miller HS as Head Baseball/Asst. Football coach. His 1951 baseball team lost to the eventual state champion at the state tournament. Roy moved back to San Antonio in the fall 1951 and became the Head Football Coach at Burbank HS. He served there 7 years and won the first district football championship the school had experienced in its 30 year history. Roy then moved to Highlands HS in 1962 and won the district football championship in his first year. There in 1964 Roy became Vice-Principal at Highlands HS and served in that role for 6 years before moving back to his real love " coaching. He was hired as Head Football Coach/Athletic Director at Judson HS in 1970, winning the district championship in 1971. He served the Judson ISD for 14 years; 3 years as Head Football Coach/Athletic Director and 11years as Athletic Director, retiring from Judson ISD in 1984. He had football teams in the state play-offs 5 different times; 3 years at Burbank, 1 year at Highlands and 1 year at Judson. Roy is a nominee for election to the Texas HS Coaches Assoc. Hall of Honor and was elected to the Texas HS Athletic Directors Hall of Honor in 1995. Roy Wallace possessed the highest quality of character, honesty and integrity. His coaching and his life were based on sound values and morals. He loved and cared for each of his athletes. He was a positive role model for coaches and kids. Roy was preceded in death by his parents Rolla and Laura Wallace and infant daughter, Nancy. He was the last survivor of 8 children, one of whom was Jewell Wallace who coached at Jefferson High School. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty, his son Richard and wife Donna and their son Daniel, his daughter Elizabeth Bosquez and husband Joe and her sons, Brandon and Brian Burdick along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Methodist church. Services will be conducted by Reverend Harold Zirkel. Pallbearers will be Jerry Sanders, S.T. Russell, D.W. Rutledge, Jim Rackley, Eddie Parsley, Louis Nelson, Dan Matocha, Sterling Jeter, Joe Harrison, Frank Arnold.
