Rose Zatopek

August 30, 1943 — December 2, 2018

Rose Zatopek was born on August 30, 1943 in Encino Texas and spent her childhood on a ranch in Victoria Texas. She entered heaven's gates peacefully and was surrounded by her family on December 2, 2018. She was a devout Catholic who prayed faithfully and started each day by reading scripture and praying the rosary. Her most memorable trip was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land where she was able to walk the footsteps of our Lord Jesus.

She graduated from Victoria High School and was a loving mother and homemaker to her daughter, Kathy Salinas and son, Julius Zatopek, III. She was a secretary of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Victoria Texas and also managed a family business. She eventually opened her own bakery and grew her business with warmth and her personal hospitality. She sold the business and moved to Corpus Christi to be near her daughter where she had a 25-year career at Michaels Arts and Crafts as a floral designer and manger of the floral department.

She served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, was an active church volunteer and also sang in the church choir. She had a passion for flower gardening and plants. She loved nature and referred to nature as God's canvas. She was remarkably creative with crafts, loved children, her puppies and her cats. She was especially proud to be a grandmother and loved her grandchildren with all her heart.

Her daughter, Kathy Salinas lovingly cared for her in the last 10 years of her life in New Braunfels, TX. The final months of her life she was cared for by the wonderful staff at Sundance Inn Health Center where she made new friends who quickly grew to love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Tomas and Francisca Abrigo, brothers Pete, Tony and Tommy Abrigo. She is survived by her two sisters, Francis and Sally Abrigo, her daughter, Kathy Salinas and her husband, Ed Salinas, her son, Julius Zatopek, III and his wife Eloise Zatopek, three grandchildren, Travis, Haley and Jake Zatopek, and three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 5:00PM - 9:00PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00PM at Schertz Funeral Home.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 11:30AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma with Father Eric Ritter officiating and the burial following at the OLPH Selma Cemetery No. 2.

The family would like to express gratitude for the loving prayers, comforting kind words, and the many offers extended to help.
