Ronald Childs

Ronald Bernard Childs (affectionately known Ronnie) of Selma,Texas went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2010. Ronald was born on June 22, 1957 in Thomaston, Georgia. He was the beloved son of John A. Childs (deceased) and Gracie Childs Douglas. He had a special relationship with his grandparents, Levorgia and Oteal Outler (both deceased) and his aunt Lizz Kendall, who helped rear him and whom he revered and loved greatly. After graduating from Upson County High School in Thomaston, Georgia, Ronald served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army from May 1976 to May 1982. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he lived and worked for several decades. He married his loving wife, Tahnee L. Childs, on September 9, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas, where his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start a landscaping company, A Cut Above The Rest Lawn Service. Ronald accepted Christ at an early age in Thomaston, Georgia. He was a member of Covenant Community Church in San Antonio, Texas. Ronald will be remembered for his clever wit, warm sense of humor, love for his children and family, and long memory of family history. Ronald loved fishing and enjoying a good meal--especially the ones that he himself cooked--and conversation with friends and family. Ronald is survived by his wife Tahnee L. Childs; his mother Gracie Childs Douglas; his children Anthony Childs, Anita Childs, Stephanie Young (Lawrence Young II), and Glenn Childs; his stepchildren Yanique Keyes, Ciara Keyes, and Javan Davis; his grandchildren Tanisha Childs, Noelani Dickson-Childs, Marcus Childs, JaQuoia McClain, John McClain, JaQuanna McClain, Kimberly Childs, and Lawrence Young III; his aunts and uncles Jeanette Outler, Lizz Kendall (Fred Kendall), and Bentley Childs; and several other relatives and friends. Ronald was an affectionate husband, a caring son, a loving father and grandfather, and a maturing Christian. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 8:00 AM on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Resurrection Baptist Church. Interment will follow at 10:45 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
