Ronald Blakeman

Ronald Michael Blakeman, age 61, of Schertz, TX, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 after a long battle with throat cancer. He was born and raised in Sayre, PA, on November 23, 1949. Ronald is preceded in death by his father, LaWayne Blakeman. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Garnet Blakeman; daughter, Cheryl Mitchan (Darrell); sons, Brian Blakeman (Carol) and Chris Blakeman. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Brandon, Austin and Bryten Mitchan and Madelyn and Benjamin Blakeman. Ronald is also survived by his mother, Anne Dunning; brother, Wayne Blakeman ; sisters, Jennie Cofield, Ann Marie Blakeman Stedge, Octive Healey (David) and Jodi Austin (Steve) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ronald served in the Air Force from 1968-1971. In 1975 he became a High School educator and retired after 30 years. Ronald served many years as a PUFL member of American Legion Post 593. From 1970-2010 he coordinated the GRAVC Veterans Parade lineup since the parades inception"all of 40 years! From 1988-1990 Ronald was the Commander of American Legion Post 593. From 2002-2004 he served as the 20th District Commander. In 2003, Ronald won the All Time High Membership Award. Between 2005-2006 he served as the 3rd Division Commander. Ronald was a very thoughtful man and had a true heart of gold. Among everything else, he enjoyed Nascar, spending time with his family and spoiling his grandkids. We know that you will always be with us in spirit. We will love and miss you forever. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Schertz Funeral Home on FM 3009. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Witschorke officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
