Roland Krueger
July 27, 1930 — February 7, 2012
Surrounded by family, Roland Herbert Krueger, age 81, passed away during the evening of February 7, 2012 at a nursing home in Schertz, TX. Roland was born to Elsa and Willie Krueger on July 27, 1930, on a farm on the Woman Hollering Creek near Converse in Bexar County. He spent his formative years there, attending Lower Valley School where Maxine and Lutrell Watts became his life-long mentors. Roland spent most of his life farming, primarily in the Cibolo area of Guadalupe County. He was meticulous in maintaining his fields free of Johnson grass, sunflowers, cockleburs and other weeds. To support his farming habit, Roland worked a variety of jobs including grocery stores in New Braunfels, Schertz and Marion and a feed store in Bracken. He was known to indulge in hunting and fishing trips between crops. Roland was constantly surrounded by a host of dogs and cats during his life. On February 14, 1952, Roland married Viola Lydia Ewald. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary in seven days. Roland and Violas union produced five children, Mike & wife, Gaye of Kerrville, Pam & husband, Larry Marbach of New Braunfels, Jeff of Schertz, Jamie & husband, Kenny Roberts of Lewisville and Scott & wife, Kim of Harper. In addition to his wife and children, Roland is survived by his 12 grandchildren, Kyle (Lana), Quinn and Camarie Marbach, Brianne (Kevin) Clark, Erica (Stacey) Tate, Ashley Torans and her fiance Paul Larrabee, Adam (Jana), Evan (Katie), Kayla, Zach (Allie), Tyler and Allison Krueger; three great-grandchildren, Kolby Clark, Lainey Krueger and Cade Marbach; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Valeska Meyer, Lucille Ewald, Freddie and Glendora Ewald, Jesse Ewald and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Roland was preceded in death by his parents and half-sister, Lena Baumann. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Darlene Evans and the dedicated staff of Autumn Winds Retirement Lodge for their loving care during Rolands stay with them. The family most especially wants to thank niece, Jeannie and husband, Johnnie Brogdon for their regular and attentive visits with Roland while he resided at Autumn Winds. Family will receive friends between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Redeemer United Church of Christ, Zuehl, with the Reverend Lee Zillmann officiating. Interment will follow at the Redeemer Cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary Pallbearers will be Rolands grandchildren.
