Roger Heard

November 11, 1962 — October 23, 2021

Roger A Heard, 58, of Cibolo, Texas, passed away October 23, 2021, while cycling.  Roger was born November 11, 1962, in Kansas City, MO, to Kenneth and Marjorie Heard.  Roger proudly served 24 years in the US Air Force Reserves and retired in 2011 in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  He began his career as a C-130 Navigator and later transitioned to the Category E reserves and served as an Admissions Liaison Officer for the US Air Force Academy.  As a Cat E reservist, he also worked as Region III Director of Admissions at the Air Force Academy, the Liaison Officer Director for Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, and on staff at Headquarters Air Education and Training Command.  While at Headquarters AETC, his friend Karl introduced him to cycling.  Roger fell in love with cycling.  In 2015 he joined the Air Force Cycling Team and he loved riding with the group.  He was known for his love for riding long distances and for always being happy to share his cycling knowledge with new riders or to stop and help anyone who needed it.  When he rode solo, he felt especially close to God and spent the time talking to Him.

Roger is survived by his wife, Marion; his two daughters, Shannon and Amber; his sister, Janet; and his nephew, Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marjorie; his brother Jack, and his best friend, Riker.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 21, from 5 to 9 pm with the Rosary starting at 6 pm.  The Funeral Mass will be Monday, November 22 at the Randolph AFB Chapel starting at noon.  After Mass, we will have the procession to the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where he will be buried with military honors at 2:15 pm.
