Roderick Robinson

April 11, 1951 — October 12, 2016

Roderick Bruce "RB" Robinson was the fourth child born to Leroy Linton and Mary Robinson on April 11, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. He departed this life on October 12, 2016, after sixty-five blessed years.

RB' s passion for playing basketball came at an early age. He grew up playing street ball almost daily. As a junior at John Adams High School, he became a competitive player.

RB joined the Air Force in October 1971 for a four-year term. He honorably served his country for twenty plus years until he retired in November 1991. During that time his interest in basketball peaked earning him the title of Mr. Intramural. After retiring from the military, RB went on to become a basketball coach and trainer. As time progressed he assisted in organizing a Stellar Youth Training Camp - R.I.S.E. (Respect, Influence, Sacrifice, Excel) HOOPS. As in basketball, RB was also a force to be reckoned with on the bowling lanes.

The most significant event in RB's life was accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. He was a friendly, kind and compassionate person often helping others as he touched many lives before and after becoming disabled in May 2013.

October 25, 1996, RB married the love of his life, Sheri Sonier. Their union blessed their combined families with three devoted children: one daughter, Jasmine and two sons, Roderick II and Marxcus.

RB is preceded in death by both parents, Leroy Linton and Mary Robinson; and, two sisters, Durita Robinson-Glen and Carolyn Jean Ball. Along with his beloved and devoted wife, Sheri, he leaves to cherish his fond memories their children Jasmine and Roderick Robinson II of Columbus, Ga, and Marxcus Fowler of Washington, D.C; two grandchildren, Dreyton and Kah'Lea Robinson of Columbus, GA; sister Patricia Robinson of Douglasville, GA and brother Leroy Robinson, Jr. (Cheryl) of Rocky Mountain, NC; father-in-law and mother-in-law Acie and Clarisia Lovelace of Washington, D.C.; father-in-law, Charles Johnson of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, from 10:00 AM to 12:00PM, at Dell Crest Church of Christ with a Funeral Service to begin at 12:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at 11: 30 AM, at Houston National Cemetery.
