Robert Mchardy

Robert (Bob) Stanton McHardy (1925-2012) was born October 18, 1925 and passed away on July 16, 2012 at 5:00AM in the presence of loved ones on the family farm in Bracken, Texas. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather (PoPo) and great grandfather. Bob attended St. Josephs Elementary school and they provided him with a scholarship to attend Central Catholic High School, graduating in 1943. Bob loyally served his country as Communications Officer in US Coast Guard, where he was assigned to a Merchant ship, serving in both the European and Pacific campaigns in WWII. After his WWII service and discharge in 1945, he served in the Coast Guard Reserves. He attended St. Marys University, becoming a charter member of Knights of Columbus. He graduated in 1949 with a BA in business. In June of 1949, Bob married Esther Lee Reimann, joined the International Harvester Company and moved to the Rio Grand Valley area where he spent 10 years as a zone manager. A career chage led Bob to obtain a Master of Science Degree in Chemistry from Colorado State University at Greeley in 1960. He joined the chemistry department at San Antonio College, teaching chemistry for several years. During this time Bob also started his own independent chemical company (SwIC Chemicals), which he successfully operated for 30+ years. He retired with his wife Esther to Padre Island in Corpus Christi, teaching occasionally at the Naval Air Station when he was not fishing, golfing or traveling. Bob was survived by his wife of 63 years, Esther Reimann McHardy, children and spouses: Vanessa and Roger Brown, Cassandra and Andrew Lindemann, Stanton and Diana (Athey) McHardy and Robert and Tabatha (Meckel) McHardy. Also survived by grandchildren; Hanna (Brown) and Andy Schramm, DeAnn (Brown) and C. J. Hooper, Hunter Brown, Drew Lindemann, Thecla Lindemann, Ryan McHardy, Dylan McHardy, Skylar McHardy, Winter McHardy, and great grand-daughter, Paisley Hooper. A mass celebrating his life will be held at St. Andrew by the Sea on Padre Island, 14238 Encantada Ave., Corpus Christi, Texas on August 11, 2012, at 11:00am, followed by a beach brunch. All family and friends are invited to join. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Robert S. McHardy Memorial Fund:UTSA College of Science,Office of the Dean,Kim Fischer at One UTSA Circle,San Antonio,TX 78249. The Robert S. McHardy Memorial Fund will be used directly on Cancer research projects, or a scholarship in Mr. McHardy's name for a qualified student carrying out active Cancer research in Chemistry.
