Robert Allen Matheny

Robert Allen Matheny, 88, passed away on January 08, 2025, surrounded by his family, at his home in Marion, Texas. He was born on December 23, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas to parents, Willard Matheny and Ethel Matheny Castle. He was a 1956 graduate of Edgewood High School in San Antonio, Texas. Robert married Billie Jane Wolf in 1957 before he enlisted in the United States Army.

He served in the Army for 20 years as a flight engineer on a Chinook helicopter. During his Army career, he received the Soldiers Medal for helping to save a crew from a buring helicopter. He retired from the military in 1977. Robert worked several Civil Service jobs before retiring again at the age of 62. He was a lifetime member of the San Antonio Rodders Club. His red ’55 Chevy won him many awards and trophies at various car shows. He also enjoyed fishing, ceramics, puzzles and working on his projects at home.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Matheny and Ethel Matheny Castle; brother, Herbie Matheny and son-in-law, Michael Leveillee. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Billie; children, Michael Matheny (Michele), Janice Camp (Ray), Pam Crouch (Robert) and Karen Leveillee; 9 grandchildren, Keith Ingalls (Christie) Kimberly Ruiz (Joseph), Mathew Leveillee (Jaclyn), Corey Ingalls (Ana), Megan Davis (Texas), Christopher Matheny (Sam), Kaitlin Maxwell (Thomas), Taylor Vinton (Annette) and Devon Matheny; 18 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews .

Robert was incredibly loved by his family. He will be missed dearly by all that knew him.

The Funeral Service for Robert Matheny will be held at 1:00PM, with Visitation to begin at 12:00PM, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, featuring full United States Army Honors, will be held at 9:15AM on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
