Robert E. "Bill" Lynch, Jr.

Bill passed away on May 25, 2016 after a valiantly fought battle with lung cancer. He was born in Wayne County, NC on May 26, 1941 and grew up on a tobacco farm, where he learned to appreciate the value of hard work as a child. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from NC State University in 1963. He later earned an M.A. in Management from Central Michigan University in 1976. He was a US Army veteran and served a tour in Vietnam in 1965-66. He worked as an engineer for the US Navy and US Air Force and retired with 33 years of service as a GM-15. Two of his favorite jobs after retirement were selling used cars for Red McCombs and team driving an 18-wheeler cross country with his good friend, Piotr Mrugalski. He loved golf in his later years and enjoyed the fellowship of his many golf friends. For many years he volunteered weekly at Olympia Hills Golf Course and played several times a week. He was also very active in his church and in the Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years, Bertha Benton Lynch; three children-Darlene Lynch Runkle and husband Bill Runkle of Garden Ridge, Samantha Lynch Kintner of Wichita Falls, and Robert E Lynch III, MD and partner, Shiva Tummala, of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren-Rachel Runkle Resop and husband Aaron Resop, Marc Runkle, Matthew Runkle, Emily Kintner, Miles Kintner, Molly Kintner, and Steven Kintner; one great-grandchild, Joey Resop; a sister, Jackie Lynch Schulke of New Port Ritchie, FL; and a brother, Steven Russell Lynch of Portland, OR.

Funeral services will be at Schertz United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Visitation will be from 3-4 PM. The funeral service will be at 4 PM with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements are provided by Schertz Funeral Home.
