Robert Lacey

Robert G. Lacey was born March 24, 1939 in the Village of Port Chester, New York and passed away June 7, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 73. He attended schools in Port Chester, New York and Bristol, Connecticut. Robert enlisted in the U. S. Navy in June, 1957 and was assigned to the USS Roy O. Hale DER336, a Destroyer Escort with its home ported in Newport, Rhode Island. After he was discharged from active duty in the Navy in 1961, he joined the Town of Greenwich Police Department in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1961, retiring in 1987 after 26 years of service. Robert married Charleen Mae Cook in 1963. He is preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Charleen, two daughters, Sharon Senez and husband, Michael residing in West Springfield, MA; Heather Ryan and husband, Keith residing in New Milford, CT. He is also survived by grandchildren, Joseph Hogaboom and wife, Melinda, Scott Hogaboom , Matthew Senez and wife, Rebecca, Zachary Senez, Dakotah Senez, Jordan and Conner Ryan; and great grandchild, Joseph Hogaboom, Jr. He is survived by his sisters , Iris Dougherty and Christine Lacey; sister-in-law, Diane Lunge and husband, Randy; nephews and nieces, Jimmy, Edward, Tom, and Mark Dougherty, Lauren Zimitti, and Sheila Marchetti, Carl Carlson, Jr. and wife, Julia, David Carlson and wife, Brandi, John Carlson, and many great nephews and nieces. After retiring from the Greenwich Police Department, he started his own Fire Safety Business inspecting buildings and equipment as an independent contractor and kept that business until he retired from the work force in 2009. He and his wife, Charleen retired to Schertz, Texas in September, 2009. Robert was an avid reader of books and wrote many poems which were published in the Greenwich Time Newspaper. He also wrote a monthly column in the Greenwich Time Newspaper while working as a Policeman. Robert learned to play bagpipes and was a former Pipe Major of the Town of Greenwich Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, and a former Pipe Sgt. With the Danbury, CT Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums. He was also the Bagpiper for the New Fairfield CT Veterans Association and also the Town of Greenwich Police Departments Honor Guard. Upon moving to Schertz, Texas he volunteered with the Memorial Service Detachment (MSD) Honor Guard at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 20, 2012 @ 10:30AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.
