Robert Horch

February 17, 1921 — May 12, 2014

MSgt Robert "Bob" Clarence Horch, USAF, Ret., was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 17, 1921, and passed away on May 12, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Lois King Horch; daughter Nancy Germadnik and husband George, son Michael and wife Loy, son Thomas and wife Francis, and sister Marguerite Meyer and husband Robert. Bob was a wonderful grandfather to five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Omaha and the USS Steele. He separated from the Navy after the war, but later joined the US Air Force where he served until retiring from active duty in 1963. His Air Force duties included serving on rescue boats on the Texas coast at Matagorda Island, and assignments to England, North Dakota, California, Washington, and Iceland. After active duty retirement Bob served 20 more years with the Air Force in civil service from which he also retired. He retired a third time from Chase Bank in Austin, Texas. Even after three retirements Bob continued to be very active. He loved gardening and working in his yard, and he became an exceptionally accomplished stained glass artist. He was very involved with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren who affectionately knew him as "Bob Bob". His quick wit, infectious smile, self-less giving nature, and gentle loving ways will be sorely missed by his wife, family, and many friends, all of whom know they are better people for having had the opportunity to know and be part of this proud, patriotic man's life. May you be forever at peace, Bob. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Wounded Warriors.
