Robert Farnsworth

April 24, 1929 — May 14, 2016

Robert (Tex) Farnsworth, beloved husband, father and grandfather (Popo) went to his final roll call to be with the Lord on May 14th, 2016 after a battle with cancer. He was born April 24, 1929 in Indianapolis Indiana. Tex enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1948 and saw combat during the Korean War.

After the war, he left the military and was employed by the U.S. Postal Services. He later re-entered the military, this time choosing the United States Air Force where he served for 20 years. While in the Air Force, one of his assignment took him to Texas A&M where he became a devoted "Aggie". He coached the A&M ROTC Rifle team and he also pursued getting an Accounting degree. After several duty assignments, he was assigned to the garden spot of the Air Force, Randolph Air Force Base, where he established the off-base housing referral office. His duties consisted of coordination with local contractors involved with providing house for assigned military personnel, which included the selling, leasing and or renting of property.

He later toured the Vietnamese combat theater, initially assigned to Phu Cat. He made trips to Danang, Cam Rahn Bay, Ton Sonh Nut; also his most memorable city, Quih Yon. After returning to the states, he became the Resource Advisor to the Air Base Group Commander.

Once he retired from the Air Force, he went to Auctioneering school to become a licensed auctioneer. Tex had a kind heart and shared it with everyone. He always was willing to help others out. Tex used his auctioneering skills doing auctions throughout the state usually free of charge helping various organizations raising funds. It was his way of thanking God for the many blessing he had been given. He was also a cattle auctioneer for the Seguin Cattle Company for over 40 years.

He was a Texas Law Enforcement Officer and went to work for the Universal City Police Department. There he supervised the Communications and also served as the Court Bailiff for many years until he retired in 2007.

He was involved with many civic organizations and served on many boards and committees. Some of them included Boysville Honorary Director, San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Director Emeritus, South Texas Farm and Ranch Club, JBSA-Randolph community Council, Child Welfare Board of Guadalupe County, Air Power Community Council, Juvenile Board of Guadalupe County, San Antonio State School Volunteer Council. He was a Rotarian with the Randolph Metrocom Rotary Club for over eleven years, with perfect attendance. He was a member of the VFD and American Legion.

Tex was also an Honorary Commander of the 12th Director of Maintenance of Randolph Air Force Base for many years.

He was a very special man who will truly be missed by everyone who knew him. We thank God for the time we were able to spend with Tex; and take comfort that he is at peace with God.

Popo loved spending time with his wife and grandsons.

Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Victoria Farnsworth: son, Derek Robert Norman of Markham, Ontario, daughter, Sarah Mueller of San Antonio Texas; grandsons: Gregory E. Mueller and Garrett L. Mueller of New Braunfels, Texas and Neiko Elkins of San Antonio, Texas.
