Robert Richard Blake, age 59, was born on June 18, 1960 in Hawarden, Iowa, and passed away in a car accident on January 16, 2020. Robert proudly served in the US Army for 6 years, working as a MEDDAC and an orthopedic specialist. He later worked at University Health Care System as a psychiatric nurse, something he was undoubtedly proud of and very good at. Robert recently started working at Methodist Specialty Transplant Hospital in psychiatric service. He was just settling in his position. Robert met “his bride” on Halloween (his favorite holiday) of 1988, when Marcia was the only person at work dressed up in full costume – needless to say he was impressed. In June of 2020, they would have celebrated 30 years of marriage. Robert’s pride and joy were his children. One of his most recent honors was walking his “baby girl”, Katrina, down the aisle at her October wedding where the whole family was together. He was also very proud of his son, Nicholas, the inheritor of his sense of humor, serving in the US Air Force.
Robert was well known for his witty jokes and the pranks he loved to play on others. He could always add humor to any situation and was loved for it. Robert loved finding new recipes, perfecting them, and spending hours in the kitchen cooking. If there was one thing Robert loved more than actually cooking, it was watching others enjoy the food he prepared. Another hobby of his included researching and collecting coins – being sure to sneak his latest coin purchase into the house when Marcia wasn’t looking. Robert loved spending time caring for and driving around in his Dodge Challenger, which he referred to as his “other lady”. He loved to jam out to music and was fond of seeing the latest movies at the theater. Robert always shared the things he loved; whether it was through a Facebook post, a recipe he’d mastered, a drive in his car, his latest corny joke, or a coin he wanted you to keep. This is, perhaps, what he will be most missed and remembered for.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia; children Katrina Barjon and husband Paul, Nicholas Blake and Brandon Blake; parents Jack and Joyce Blake; siblings Tari Fish and husband Dave, Jackie Floersch and husband Jeff, Bill Blake and wife Terri; mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Nilson, sisters and brothers-in-law Colleen Hecht and Evan and Kay Nilson and Paul, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Blake and father-in-law, Gene Nilson. Robert, “Robbie” also leaves behind many childhood friends from Cherry Tree Court and St. Francis. His love for Sonoma was no secret and he had plans to return this summer.
