Robert (Cub) L. Cubberly, age 78, passed away on February 7, 2016 in Schertz, TX. He was born November 20, 1937 to Percy & Hilda Cubberly, in Defiance, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Chad Cubberly. Robert is survived by his wife: Janice Johnson Cubberly; children: Dana Wood & husband, Chris, Troy Cubberly & wife, Vera and Jay Cubberly & wife, Monica; siblings: Amy Cubberly Strub, Ralph Cubberly and Rodney Cubberly; and grandchildren: Cherise Cubberly, Eric Cubberly, Haley Cubberly, Dustin Wood, Kiera Cubberly, Jacquelyn Wood and Sean Wood.
Robert served in the Marines and Air Force and proudly retired from the USAF as a Lt. Col. He flew Refuelers, Recons, AWACS and F-4's. Robert was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross the Air Medal four times, as well as receiving many other Air Force commendations. He was the former owner of The Carburetor Shop. His passion for the last 20 years was flying his small planes at the Kitty Hawk Flying Field.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Schertz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Center for the Intrepid at www.fallenheroesfund.org , or St. Jude's Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org .
