Robert Backa

July 15, 1943 — May 30, 2012

Robert Joseph Backa passed away on May 30, 2012. He was born July 15, 1943, the son of William and Margaret Backa. Following graduation from high school he served honorably in the United States Air Force in Okinawa and Vietnam. After four years of service he began a new career at Grumman NY and then spent over 20 years at SITA. He married Patricia Callahan and they celebrated 44 years of marriage this past February. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, uncle and great uncle. He enjoyed fishing out at Montauk NY, and was well known for his backyard BBQ's. Robert enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his family. Robert is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; his son, Christopher; daughter Lisa; sister Rosemarie Sweaney; and sister Pauline Callahan, husband Jerome Callahan; sister-in-law Sharon Paternoster, husband Ted Paternoster and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Schertz Funeral Home, from 4:00PM until 9:00PM, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00PM. The Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 16075 N. Evans Road, Selma, Texas, 78154, at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we are asking a donation be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in my dads name.
