Rita Lacombe

July 24, 1927 — January 9, 2018

Our dearest Rita Opal Domico LaCombe enriched the lives of many through her nurturing, goodness, kind, understanding and loving personality. She was truly the matriarch of the LaCombe Family.

Rita was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on July 24, 1927 and passed away on January 9, 2018 living a long life of 90 years, five months and 17 days. She was loving and young at heart.

In her youth, her beauty captivated many people in Alexandria as brides often called on Rita to be a flower girl in their upcoming wedding. She attended Providence Academy, an all-girl Catholic school where she met many life-long friends. She worked as a telephone operator when the technology was in its infancy. Operators used a manual switchboard connecting calls by plugging cords into the appropriate jack back in the day of party lines when operators placed calls.

Rita met and married the love of her life, Paul Bert LaCombe in 1945. Together they had eight children. The family grew from there to include 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, children; Linda Lou Pack, Mark Albert LaCombe & Samuel Thomas LaCombe, siblings; Samuel Domico and Mary Louviere. Rita is survived by her children, Lauren Sturm and husband Fabian of Falls City, Paul and wife Carol of Windcrest, Joseph and wife Jeanette of Weatherford, Patrick of Canyon Lake, Tim and wife Bobbie of San Antonio; and her baby sister, Francis Finney of Alexandria.

Rita was a woman of strong faith and a dedicated wife & mother. While Paul, like many others in our community was called to war she was at home raising the many kids; cooking (she was a very good cook), cleaning, doing laundry, making lunches , comforting, and tending to illness and injury. She provided a loving home, making sure to raise decent considerate children with a good outlook and clean life shielded from the reality of the turmoil abroad. She always looked to see the best in people.

Rita was very intuitive and could sense when there was mischief about or when someone was in need or hurting. Her artistic & creative nature included making clothes & costumes for the kids in the early days. Later she was known for her cake baking & decorating skills. Her beautiful cakes were in high demand for office parties, anniversaries, birthdays and weddings.

Rita was also funny, witty and often a practical joker. She enjoyed innocent fun. She loved her family and her friends; old and new. We are all blessed to have had her in our lives. Thank you for all of your love. May you Rest In Peace and serenity in the arms of the Lord.
