Richard Nyland

Richard Nyland passed away on August 20, 2014 at the age of 76. He was born in Lake Wood, Ohio on June 22, 1938. Richard grew up in Olmsted Falls where he played football through his high school years. He served in the Army for two years during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He is preceded in death by his parents Richard Christopher Nyland and Wilma Phyllis Holler Nyland; sister, Susan Joann Nyland Alexander. Richard is survived by his wife, Anita Nyland; son, Rodney Turnham (Phyllis); granddaughters, Kelly Halstead, Carrie Scott; great grandson, Matthew Halstead; sisters, Esther Ruth Nyland Morley (Richard) and Karen Faith Nyland Herwerden (Dennis); nieces, Louanne Ruth Morley Heinisch (Edward), Lynne Rachele Morley Kerst (Ronald), Marla Dawn Morley Ludacka, Kimberly Sue Herwerden Shaarda (David), Pamela Kay Herwerden DeVries (James), Jill Denise Herwerden Richardson (Scott); Nephew, Ian Nijland Wilson; great nieces, Madeleine Ruth Heinisch, Camden Rachele Heinisch, Abby Hunt, Alison DeVries, Nicole DeVries, Amelia Richardson, Eliza Richardson; great nephews, Peter Eugene Heinisch, Jared David Ludacka, Alec Morley Ludacka, James Hunt, Eric DeVries. Richard continued his education with vocational courses in data processing and worked in that area in banking in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1974 Richard and wife Anita moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, then later to Cibolo and Universal City, Texas. Richard spent his last working years as a Technical writer at Fort Sam Houston. He also authored a book, "Jesus, an Express overview". He was an artist at heart and loved making a variety of things and also painting. Most of all he loved his God, his family, his church, and his friends. A visitation will be held on August 25, 2014 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Schertz Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on August 26, 2014 at 9:30AM at Grace Orthodox Presbyterian located at 5602 Utex Blvd. San Antonio, TX, 78249, with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
