Richard Calvin Norwood, of Schertz, TX, passed away unexpectantly on June 21, 2019, six days before his 77 th birthday. He was a much-loved husband and father. To his family and friends he was known by his middle name—Calvin.
Calvin was born in Soudan, VA to Margaret Vivian and Richard Garland Norwood who both preceded him in death. He is survived by Margit, his wife of 55 years, and his two children, Richard Thomas Norwood of San Antonio, TX and Sherald Yvonne Norwood of Converse, TX. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great granddaughter, all living in TX, and two brothers, Stephen Dwight Norwood of GA and Rex Kirby Norwood of VA.
Calvin faithfully served his country with the United States Air Force. After retiring from the military, and despite his increasing battle with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease, he continued to serve as a civilian for the Department of the Army for a number of years until his second retirement. While he was stationed with the Air Force in Hof, Germany near the former East German border, he met his futire wife, Margit. They married in Germany and, after he brought Margit back to the United States with him, he often referred to her as his “Souvenir from Germany.”
Calvin will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on July 16, 2019 at 10:15 am, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, https://parkinsonfoundation.org /, or to the charity of your choice.
