Richard Leal

Richard   Andrew   Leal, known   by   most   as “Rick,” was   summoned   by   God   suddenly   on   the morning   of   Saturday, April   11, 2020.   Rick   was   61   years   of   age   at   the   time   of   his   passing.   Rick was   the   son   of   Esperanza “Hope” and   Richard   Agapito Leal whom survive him.   He   was preceded   in   death   by   his   younger   brother, Ray   Anthony   Leal.   He   is   survived   by   his   wife, Linda Leal.   Rick   also   leaves   behind   his   three   sons, Patrick   Michael [Sandy], Matthew   Vincent [Amanda] and   Mark   Anthony, and   his   stepdaughter   Lauren   Javior.   He   was   the   proudest grandfather   to   Addison   Mia   Leal   and   James   Tiberius   Leal.   He   will   be   remembered   by   his brothers, Hector   Joe [Jennifer] and   Michael   Anthony [Peggy], and   sister, Sandra “Sandy” Ann [Mark].   His   many   aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces   and   nephews   left   behind   will   remember   him fondly.

Rick   was   born   in   Seguin, TX   on   December   2, 1958   before   moving   to   his   childhood   home   on Flint   Rock   Drive   in   San   Antonio, TX.   After   graduating   from   Holmes   High   School, he   earned a Bachelor   of   Arts   from   Texas   Lutheran   College   in   1981.   In   1986, he   moved   to   the   city   of   Schertz where   he   raised   his   three   boys, Patrick, Matthew   and   Mark, on   Dimrock.   He   enjoyed   his   final years   on   Preston   Pass   in   San   Antonio   with   his   wife   Linda   Leal   and   stepdaughter   Lauren.

In   his   life, Rick   was   known   by   many   things:   dad, son, brother, grandpa, husband, coach, builder. Professionally, he   identified   with   pride   as   a   builder.   Custom   houses, golf   courses, community development   and   swimming   pools   are   among   the   countless   projects   that   he   leaves   behind   as   a lasting   reminder   of   the   lives   he   touched.   His   best   times   were   coaching   his   three   boys   in   baseball at   BVYA   in   Schertz   and   football   with   the   Cibolo   Creek   Cougars.   He   volunteered   countless   hours at   practices   and   many   weekends   preparing   the   fields   so   they   were   ready   for   the   kids   on gameday.   He   mentored   a   generation   of   players   in   the   Schertz-Cibolo   area.   He   will   be remembered   by   hundreds   in   the   community   affectionately as “Coach   Rick.”

His   fandoms   included   the   Cowboys,  the   Spurs,   the   Longhorns   and,   above   all   else,   the   Samuel Clemens   Buffaloes;   however,   he   cheered   the   loudest   watching   Patrick   graduate   from   the University   of   Texas   at   San   Antonio,   Matthew   graduate   from   Texas   State   University   and   St. Mary’s   School   of   Law,   Mark   graduate   from   the   University   of   Texas   at   Austin,   and   waited expectantly   to   watch   Lauren   graduate   from   Texas   Lutheran   University.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2020, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm and from 6:00pm to 7:00PM at the Schertz Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, April 20, 2020, 10:00am also at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel.  All services will follow COVID-19 guidelines with no more than 10 guest at a time.
