Richard went to be with the Lord peacefully on the afternoon of November 10, 2022. Over the years, he suffered multiple health issues from Agent Orange exposure while serving in the United States Army in Vietnam. Richard struggled with diabetes and went to the Baptist Emergency Hospital for breathing problems. While there, they discovered he had pulmonary edema, which they treated and ordered him to transfer to Resolute Hospital to see a cardiologist. While resting and awaiting the transfer, he closed his eyes and peacefully went to be with the Lord. It was his time, and we are grateful he went peacefully.
Richard leaves behind his wife, Bonnie, of 53 years; daughter Holly McBrearty with her husband Cody and grandchildren Colton and Cassidy; and daughter Mandy Doctoroff with grandchildren Casey and Josef. He had many other "kids" over the years through the exchange student program with whom he loved spending time - the last being Ignacio Villegas, who became his son at heart and visited frequently.
Richard was a giving man in every sense of the word. He was proud of his daughters and adored his grandchildren. He very much enjoyed traveling, playing games, and eating out. If he liked you, there is a good chance he called you "Jack," "Suzy," "Lucy," or any other silly name he thought up at the moment. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved the people around him with all his heart.
There will be a Graveside Service for Richard on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
