Rey Serna, Sr.
December 7, 1952 — April 27, 2011
Rey Serna, Sr., age 58, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Live Oak, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Roberto and Guadalupe Serna in San Antonio on December 7, 1952. Rey is survived by wife, Nettie C. Serna; son, Rey Serna, Jr. & wife, Norma; daughters, Melissa M. Serna, Yvette Serna and Monica Aleman & husband, Mike; 12 treasured grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; beloved mother, Guadalupe Serna; sisters, Yolanda Longoria and Ernestina Cantu & husband, Juan; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends whom were blessed to have known him. He was preceded in death by his father, Roberto Serna; brothers, Alonzo Serna and Bobby Serna and sister, Rachel Luna. He proudly served as a Specialist Fourth Class in the United States Army. Over the years he enjoyed working as a Maintenance Technician and was employed at Forum at Lincoln Heights for 15 years as a Leadman. He also loved listening to oldies, being with his family, making jokes, laughing and watching the Spurs with his son. Rey touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 5 to 9 PM, at Schertz Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Friday, May 6, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Noon the service departs from the funeral home in procession to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma. Funeral Mass will be held 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers include: Zachary R. Serna, Jonaven R. Serna, Justin A. Limon, Korey Aleman, Mike Aleman, Juan Cantu and Raul Longoria Jr.; and Honorary Pallbearer, Rey Serna Jr.
